New Zealand, who lost to eventual winners India in the semi-final in the inaugural edition, just scrapped through to make the Super Six. Somewhat hampered by rain, their campaign witnessed defeats against South Africa and Nigeria, before the face-saving win against Samoa. They eventually finished third, the final qualifying spot, in Group C behind South Africa and Nigeria.
It's a fresh start for New Zealand, always a force in global tournaments irrespective of formats. And they face a determined side from the United States of America, a team fuelled by the Indian diaspora.
The debutants finished second in Group B with one win, one defeat and one no result. An abandoned outing against Pakistan effectively set the tone. With one point in the pocket, the Americans stunned Ireland by nine wickets for their maiden win, but England gave them a reality check.
New Zealand vs USA Playing XIs
After a goalless first quarter, Korea struck just 36 seconds into the second quarter with Jungjun Lee finding the net due to a mistake from Pakistan goalkeeper Abdullah Ishtiyaq Khan. The goal remained the difference between the two teams till the half-time.
